Suitcase Dilemma

I now realize why I procrastinated packing. All our luggage has been well loved these past 8 years. One suitcase has a busted zipper, the other has a broken handle and another, a broken clip (needed when I travel alone) and somehow 3 of our carry on little isle suitcases rolled away to suit case land. As much as those things have traveled around the world I can't complain. Fortunately we were able to run to Walmart at 9pm and get some cheap ones until they break and I can shop for our next good set. I kept telling myself 'after Christmas sales' but never made it out to do after Christmas shopping. Blah. I have 2 suitcases, 4 carry on's, 2 car seats and 2 kids. Piece of cake compared to our international traveling. Now I can't wait to see all of you!

*I packed all our items needed including underwear for the Friday wedding in a carry on. I could only imagine loosing our luggage. What am I still doing up? Flight leaves early in the morning.

Where Have I Been?

Well I'll tell you where I have been. Running around in circles like a chicken with it's head cut off....but instead I have a phone to my ear. I tell ya after this weekend I will be able to breathe at least one sigh of relief. I think by now all parties involved are ready for the wedding to be done and over with. It's been difficult being on the other coast because I get the "Did so and so tell you..." often. No! No one told me plans changed...again! My major concerns are steaming out her flower girl dress and his tux that I just picked up from the cleaners, but will have to be balled up for transport. Now I have to stock my Mom's little purse with silly putty, a TowMater car and anything small that can keep Bear's attention if he gets the wiggles during the ceremony. I'm so excited for my brother! I can't wait to see what kind of joke his friend swill pull (probably a ring loss one since it's a toss up on Bear or the Best Man being more responsible). I put money on them dancing their first dance so nicely and then busting out into something like "I like big butts..." in the middle. Nope, I wouldn't put it past my brother...or Liz since she's a female version of him. I can't wait to see them.

I have not started my mock-pack yet. Usually during travels I pack and weigh all our luggage to the pound. I once was .2 ounces over my 50 lb limit...so I removed a pair of socks and traveled with them in my coat pocket. You know, in case I needed to change my socks. It's a good thing they put a weight limit on luggage because this seasoned Navy wife has mastered the art of packing...and spacebaging. Whoa I love those things! I fill the bag with clothes and attach my Dyson that sucks big time...until it's a shoebox size and 100 lbs. How else could I get the kids clothes home from my in laws in Kentucky. My MIL laughed at me as we slammed the trunk. As of this moment I just started laying everything out, suitcases have not even made their way in the house. So unlike me. And here I am blogging.

Off to lay in bed and continue praying for a fellow Navy family whose newborn son is in an overseas NICU. I couldn't imagine...

I'll post the ones off my camera after I cut my to do list in half. These were taken from the outlawed in-laws.

Max and his Grandpa he hasn't seen since before we moved overseas.
I got caught kissing a...a...well, an animal.
Love your hat Monkey.
He makes some weird faces when you put a camera in it.

Can I...

...take my tree down yet? Oh- C'mon, the day will be over in about 3 hours. Truth be told all the ornaments are off and put away. Tomorrow I'll have Max get the toats out to put everything else away. I won't disturb him now. He is laying the last of the tile on the bar and hopes to have it all grouted by the time he gets off of leave. Plans to dust, mop and vacuum tomorrow are put on the back burner since I will need to clean up after Mr. Mess.

Laundry is done. My kids got a whole new wardrobe while we were in Kentucky. Grandma even washed it all before we came home so I didn't have to do it. I still managed to do 3 loads today. How?

All the toys with little pieces or that cause a mess are put up in the top of the closet until I give permission for use. I know it's not going to help, but one can hope. I found Bear standing on a pillow on a step stool that was on top a chair to get the snacks off the top pantry shelf. It's only a matter of time before I see moon sand ground into bed sheets, or Color Wonder finger paint grease marks on the wall. But at least I can say I tried.

I can't wait to go to the gym tomorrow. I NEED cardio after my neighbor brought over the best fudge ever- Cookies and Creme. I did my best to not make the family tradition pizelle's (Italian cookies) this year...once my Mom gets wind of will probably do with the kids while we are out there. I'm craving cardio today. Our Gym just got new machines too...I can watch TV on my piece of equipment while working out. Lazy Americans is the only thing that comes to mind. Do we really need to be bribed with a TV screen 18 inches away form our face while we build a sweat? Whatever. If it works for the New Year Resolutioners I guess it's worth it. Speaking of resolutions I have yet to give much thought on mine until now. I decided to go easy on myself for 2009. My resolution is to restrict myself to only do laundry on Monday and Thursday. Let's see how this works!

I'm tired. I took a nap after we opened gifts this morning. I feel like I'm coming down with that sinus infection again. Lovely. We had a layed back day. I think this is the first time we didn't do anything with anyone for Christmas Day. In previous years we celebrated it like a typical military holiday. This year we did Christmas Eve with friends. We had an evening filled with food, singing Happy Birthday to Jesus, making gingerbread houses (our tradition), and laughing. I was tired (still need to catch up from the drive home). Most of you know how I get when I'm tired. I'm more entertaining then the folks with a few drinks in them. They were recording the evening for my friend in Kuwait. Good thing she knows me well, I hope she ignores my response to a joke her husband told me. It resulted in me running out of the room: "I gotta pee, I gotta pee, get outta my way, I gotta pee!"

I'm rambling. I gotta go sleep.

Today-

Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.
-Luke 2:11- (New International Version)

Merry Christmas!!!

City Girl - Country Boy!

We made it in. I drove the whole way home and only took one wrong turn which happened to be here in Virginia. Go figure. You know in 604 miles I counted nine Cracker Barrels! Nine! I have never been to one until Grandpa took us out to one this week. It was a nice drive home...no rain...no traffic...no diarrhea stops x's 3 people because of McDonald's (I ate a salad and didn't get sick). Ever since we returned to the states I have not been able to eat that nasty place (or Hardees -which is Carls Jr. for you Californians). Blah! We made it home in 11 hours and 45 minutes....I did say I was driving right? These 35 mph back roads kill me. I miss jumping on the 15 Vegas-bound going 70mph... OK, maybe it was a little over 85 in the before kids days...and making that straight shot to Nana's in no time. I knew to watch for cops in helo's, the middle of nowhere around Zizzyx Rd., and on the blind side of a couple overpasses. Here, I gotta watch for more and it sucks not knowing the grounds. I pointed out cops and he pointed out deer. Does that mean I'm more of a city girl who's got me a country boy? Joyce Meyer "New You" series kept me awake on these windy roads. She is awesome! She had me thinking so hard that my heart jumped when a cop sped up behind me with his blue lights flashing....then he sped past me. Wshew!

I just looked at the clock and need to throw some clothes on to take a dress and a tiny tux to the cleaners for use next week.

Gasp!

Next week, Elizabeth will legally be......my-sister-in-law.

I'll get more about the trip on here later. ((Hugs)) to my readers!

Home-bound

*Sigh*

I love the southern hospitality...especially in the Urgent Care when Bear broke out with an allergic reaction last week, and in ER today because his Daddy was doubled over. We can leave now that we visited the highlights of this rickety-dink town and everyone is healthy.

Soooooo much to blog about but gotta 12 hour drive ahead of us. Too bad I can't blog and drive through snow or ice at the same time. Guess your gunna just have to wait....or call me and keep me company while I'm on the road.

Kalee just came in with awful cheese breath. Gotta go attack her mouth with toothpaste. :)

Spoilied Husband!

My husband... a grown Man... has his Mom wrapped. Brat! WeHe got a Wii. He knew I was serious when I said I was not going to get it for him now. The most I agreed to do is get him his own remote for when we went to our friends house. His Mom got it for us and I agreed to allow Max to get a couple games from the $15.00 rack. Couldn't pull Max, Grandpa, his mom or the kids away from it...but hey, I'm not complaining right now, I got more then 5 minutes use of the computer!

Off to the swap meet with the familia while Max and Grandpa are at the gun show.

Another Language

I'm working on my fourth language....hillbilly. This place is crazy but we sure are enjoying our visit with family. I'll post pictures when I get them on this computer. Four computers and I still have to fight to get on for 5 minutes. We are all nuts!

Where in the World Are We?

13 hours...2 kids...1 car....and an allergic reaction (that may cause us to visit ER here before we leave)...but we made it! Now I just need a missing tooth and a bad southern draw to fit in here. Oh how I love his family. ;P

Thoughts

My list is getting longer and the amount of time I have to accomplish it is getting shorter.

I enjoyed conversation with a friend this morning. Gosh I wish we lived closer.

I did 3 miles on the precor followed by 3 miles on a bike this afternoon. I can't wait to be a cardio-addict again. I'm going to try some step classes *hold your laughter colorguard friends* after taking a few beginner courses. I want to be doing this again. In Japan we had the whole basket ball court full of people workin up a sweat. One good thing came of my body after kids...I like shaking it. :P

Kalee is doing well with her new math curriculum. I hate math. She can hate it only if she's good at it. After prayer, research and talking to a few school teacher friends that I'm convinced are in my life for these kind of reasons... because never before did I have so many educator friends at my fingertips... I decided to change it. I actually have to stop her form going further so she can process what she has learned for the day. YEAH! I can't complain that she is a book worm either. My girl has already read a chapter book this month.

I got good news! I can soo kiss my husbands feet now. Thanks to him, my drier heats up and works...but the folding and putting away option is still broke.

Bear was trying to make peanut butter with pliers and the can of nuts. Now I have nut pieces to clean up.

My arms hurt from boxing on our friends Wii last night. I'm no longer a Wii virgin.

I need working deodorant!

Night!

Little Miss Kalee

This year the children's Christmas party at Church was a progressive dinner. Those that know us, know we are VERY weary of leaving our children. Last night we had our Life Group Bible study and it worked out where we dropped her off and went to study and a few hours later picked her up. We reviewed manners, phone numbers and everything I assume any a parent would do when leaving children. In case your lost like I was a few weeks ago and have no clue what a progressive dinner is....they went to one house for and appetiser, another for supper and another for dessert. Yeah I have never heard of it. Then again I did not know what 'boss' drinks were until recently... in California we call them 2 liters!!! So when a friend and I went to pick the kids, I drilled her on the way back to bible study. Did you have fun? What did you eat? How did you feel? Were you ever uncomfortable? Who did you sit next to in the van? The entire way back to life group (and about 4 times since) I listened to a story like this:

Mom! It was soooo fun! First went to the Miram's (Kalee's friend whose Dad is our "preacher dude") house for the appetiser. We had these things with cheese in them and it was soooo delicious. I don't remember what they were called but we dipped them in pizza sauce and I love them. Can we get those sometime? Sure, after I ask Mrs. Lisa what they were. Then we went to Mrs. Angies for dinner. We ate salad with tomatoes...you know the little cherry tomatoes, cucumber, and that leaf stuff...oh and carrots and ranch dressing and pasta and bread...you know like the kind you love... Garlic bread? Yeah garlic bread, but they were sticks. We played some games.... What did you play? Oh, it was this cool game with toilet paper. We were allowed to waste it for the game. They told me I could. We had to decorate someone to look like a snowman...but couldn't cover their face, they had to breathe. Then we threw marshmallows... but Mrs Penny (her teacher) said we are doing that again in church tomorrow. Then we all got in the car again and went somewhere else. They had two doggies. The white and grey one was born blind and I felt so sad for him. the other one was really soft. We decorated cookies...I made a star and a gingerbread man with pink frosting....it was yummy. After we put our jackets on and went out to the stinky barn. They had 2 horses and we fed them apples. Mrs. Penny talked about Jesus. Jesus Mary and Joseph were probably cold Mom. They didn't have a heater. Not even a little one like we have because they had no plugs. Oh and Mr. Kirk (our preacher dude) said something about RubyTuesdays. Huh?

To clarify, I do serve dinners like that....sometimes. I promise. I have been on Bear about wasting toilet paper and am about to start buying 1-ply in hopes the toilet unclogging ceremonies will come to a halt. And I even got details about which cookie she ate first, how much sauce was on her pasta and how Mrs. Angies cell phone looks just like mine. The girl told all! YES! My little lady reported EVERYTHING!

At church today I talked to Lisa about what cheese thing she served because for the life of me I could not figure it out. Mozzarella sticks! Well Duh! She told me Kalee asked to only try one. After she ate it she loved it and said "May I please have another?" Lisa complimented and told her she was going to have to tell her Mom how good her manners were. Kalee replied "I know her phone number, you can call her."

Oh yeah and about RubyTuesdays? Yeah, they serve mozzarella sticks! LOL

I Got Christmas Survey Tagged

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? If it's my responsibility....gift bags for sure! I can only wrap square boxes due to OCD.

2. Real tree or Artificial? A prelit fake.

3. When do you put up the tree? Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving.

4. When do you take the tree down? Between the day after Christmas and New Years.

5. Do you like eggnog? The flavor yes, but I can't drink it...it's too thick like whole milk. Bleck! It's psychological, I know....but I drink cook with the see through water milk aka: skim.

6. Favorite gift received as a child? Electric blanket...I'm cold and it's on my mind. Or was it money to hit the after Christmas clothing sales.

7. Hardest person to buy for? Grand-Mother-in-law.

8. Easiest person to buy for? My churns.

9. Do you have a nativity scene? No. But I want one because that is what Christmas is all about. Maybe I can get one for almost nothing on the 26th.

10. Mail or email Christmas cards? Both but reserve e-mail only for those I don't have a physical address for. It's hard to keep up with physical addresses when most of your friends PCS every 18-36 months. I like doing Christmas letters...but didn't get one out last year because we just moved here, or the year before because Bear was born (and I moved from Yokohama to Yokosuka at 6 weeks postpartum while he was deployed). So far I have had no urge to write one this year...but I still have time and no real excuse.

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? Hands down a self breast exam! Yes I'm serious! I recycled it and gave it to my sister. I think I should warn my sister in law Liz...she is the next female in line.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? Home Alone...only because I vividly remember my brother reciting it word for word.

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? I stash all year long.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Sure did! See #11.

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Turkey and sweet potatoes (or orange potatoes as my kiddos call them).

16. Lights on the tree? Prelit clear.

17. Favorite Christmas song? Mary Did You Know. I'm learning to sign it too but doing Gloria at Church this year.

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? This year we are kinda traveling and kinda doing a typical military Holiday...kinda weird I know. ;P

19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer's? Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, and Rudolph. One of those good things my father taught me as a kid. "Santa is just a big ol' man in a suit that's not real." -Kalee

20. Angel on the tree top or a star? Star

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? One Christmas Eve. The rest in the morning...but this year is whack with travels.

22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? People thinking gifts are necessary and watering down the true meaning of Christmas.

23. Favorite ornament theme or color? My tree has been Silver and Blue since we got married and my decor is all snowmen. I'm thinking one year I will go Crimson Red and Gold. Gotta catch those after Christmas sales though.

24. Favorite for Christmas dinner? Turkey

25. What do you want for Christmas this year? My daughter to get her two front teeth. ;) ...no really, I want my drier to work.

26. Who is most likely to respond to this? Someone bored that unlike me has all their dishes done, laundry folded and put away and bathrooms scrubbed...

....couldn't be any of my 'Mom' friends...that's for sure...

6 Years Ago- short version

On a Tuesday morning six years ago, I woke up about 6:00 feeling pressure discomfort. It was the day before my due date and Daddy went in to work for a few hours. I called my Mom since I knew she was up getting ready to bring my siblings to school. My Mom called about 11:30 and asked how I was feeling. I still wouldn't admit I was in labor. She said she was just going to come down and hang out. I hung up with her and Max walked in the door about 11:45. He saw me on the couch and came right over and sat next to me. I think he immediately realized I was contracting close and hard. Within two contractions of us talking my water broke. My eyes got huge, "My water, my water just broke, it felt like a water balloon and just popped." He jumped up and quickly got out of uniform into jeans and a shirt. I called my Mom. He put my socks and shoes on (I couldn't bend over or I would leak more) and we left. While on the way to the hospital, between Coronado's speed bumps and contractions we called Max's Mom, my Dad and Sarah. Max dropped me off at the flag circle and parked. I made my way up to the labor and delivery deck and handed the check in lady my ID and told her my water just broke. She told me to have a seat...don't worry, I didn't...but I did give her and ear full. Good thing I did becasue the intern that saw me for my appointment the day before heard my voice and said "Averi, come on back". Got on the table and was dialated to a nine, 100% efaced. My audience (Mom, mother-in-law, brother, Sarah and Brock) made it just in time to see Max in full scrubs catch our first born child, Kalee Madison. I remember the day so vividly. Six years old today! That means we are 1/3 of the way done with our time of raising her. That chokes me up! I continue to pray that Lord helps Max and I guide her to be a positive influence on others and His will be done. Happy 6th Birthday to our beautiful little princess! You have been a blessing in our lives and we are honored to be chosen as your parents. We love you baby girl!

Un-ware

Bear just came to me... "Mom, please fix my pants" as he tries to fasten the snap button repeatedly while sucking in. I looked at him and said "Those are supposed to fit you. Maybe I need to loosen the elastic (adjustable waist)." He looked up in my eyes and said with a straight face "but I wear pive un-ware." Sure enough- he was. FYI all five pairs were Spiderman!

Me: Kalee what do you want for dinner?
Kalee: I want some veggies, a hot white potato and corn.
Me: OK, Bear what do you want?
Bear: I want chicken and ice cream soup.

Pearl Harbor Day

A special day. I'll never forget it. Other then the lives taken on this December day in 1941... two lives came together in 1950. If my Papa were still alive this would be their 58th anniversary.

I cant wait to see Max's head bald all the time...and not have to address the missed spot behind his ear on a weekly basis. :)

Thanksgiving Weekend

It's already the week after Thanksgiving? WOW! We had a busy weekend. Thursday we had some friends over for Turkey dinner. I tried my grandmothers stuffing recipe for the first time. Not bad. Grandmother would have definitely criticized my lumpy mashed potatoes that everyone loved. I was raised with no lumps but everyone downed the toxins (potatoes change and become not healthy when cooked) covered in my lump less homemade gravy. Max eats almost anything...be it from 'Hell's Kitchen' (the ship) or Burnt Paradise (my kitchen) but didn't take much interest in my home made cranberries this year. I'm thinking of finding a way to puree and can them myself. Canning! How crunchy is that?! But really did you expect any different from me? I swear I have to be creative and sneak things like wheat germ into his salsa for nutrition. Amber made awesome sweet potatoes that one of our church friends recently dug up from his garden. Another thing I would love to learn how to can. We all love sweet potatoes...so much that I make sweet potato pancakes! We had a typical military family dinner....and it was wonderful to have another evening of fellowship prior to Amber's departure.

Friday morning my neighbor and I got out of the house about 3:30. We made it to Wal-Mart and got a map of what pallet of merchandise was where. Made our game plan and worked as a team to get what we needed when the bell rang at 5:00... paid for our stuff and walked back to the car at 5:18. Toys R Us was next...only 3 items and a 15 minute wait. Off to Target to get Max his gift. I'll tell you what it is because I know he will only read the first and last line of this blog...if at all. Besides the fact, he picked it out. I got him a new ship camera that can fit in his pocket. I can see the eyebrows of non-military raising so let me explain. When he is deployed he needs a camera too. I'm tired of getting motion sick looking at his blurry pictures from his 6 year old camera that has been dropped countless times in foreign ports. I was so ready to spend the $89.00. Target is in the mall here so we also wandered Children's Place, Family Christian Bookstore which had fantastic door buster deals, and I even got a secret from Victoria. Two coffee stops later we called it quits and made it back home by 10ish. Max got the kids ready and was standing at the door keys in hand to 'pick up a few things for under the kitchen sink' from Lowes. Yeah, I'm not that stupid. His motive was power tools, large tool box, and anything with a laser light or an 18 volt battery. I took his wallet and handed him $20. OK, no I didn't...but it sounded good. Friday afternoon we stopped by our friends house to say one last 'see you later'. She left Saturday morning.

Saturday Max and our friend Romy started on our back splash in the kitchen. A little grout and caulking left and everything is done. As far as my kitchen ceiling... the warehouse effect is kinda growing on me. Who needs sheet rock?

Fast forward to today- I started wrapping presents. Bear walked in and tried to look under the blanket.
Me: What do you think your doing?
Bear: I want to see under that.
Me: No
Bear: Mooooooom, I want to see if I like it. (jumping up and down starting a tantrum)
Kalee: I didn't see anything Mom (talking fast as if she's guilty)
Me: Good cuz' I don't want you telling Sydney and Harley what Mrs. Susan has me holding for them for Christmas.
Kalee: Oh. (pause) Is Sydney getting the Moon Sand? Or Harley?
Me: Uh-huh...get outta here!

She realized she got caught. I think I can only pull that off for another year or so. My Mom did it way too long. I even remember reversing it "Mom, I think Candice would like that."

Off to research sales on Leap Frog products.

Dinner with Friends

We had some friends over for dinner last night. Yes I cooked, and yes we have friends. I know, I'm amazing some of you. On the menu was goulash, garden salad and hot french bread. I kept it simple. We thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship as did the kiddos. Amber, a wife and mom of 3 children under 5 years of age will be deploying in less days then I can count on one hand. Heartbreaking I know. On the way home from the commissary yesterday I was talking to Kalee about it. At almost 6 years old she understands 'deployment' and said she will be a good friend and help them through this time. I was shocked. She told me "Mrs. Amber has to leave to go help people... but she will come back and be with her family." *smile* My heart warmed up. Kalee knows no different but understands the sacrifices made as a military family. We later got into conversation about moving. I asked how she would feel if Daddy came home and told us the Navy wanted us to move again. She said "I would feel fine. It would be sad to leave all my friends but I can write them letters and put them in the mail or send them e-mails. I miss my friends in Japan...but I might see them again." What's funny is she's absolutely right. We are back where we started 8 years ago...still visiting with friends we knew before children. And who knows where the friends we met amongst the previous duty stations will end up. Here. As some have. Or one of the places we move to next! My Mom and I just had a conversation about military children and moving. People think it's crazy we move so much. I keep reminding them to pencil our address in, otherwise their phone book will look as bas as mine with pages of crossed out old addresses. My opinion...based on our family, beliefs and such...it's all in what you make of it! I don't want my children to fear change like I did. I contribute a strong family bond to only having each other to rely on. I thought about how many holidays we have spent with family...and realize military cling together and ARE family. I miss not having the Rod's around...and Kalee still talks about Destiny. We often talk about the Christmas in Negishi after Bear was born and Kalee played in it at Niko's while Mrs. Mosa made us abuleta (Mexican hot cocoa). Memories of getting together with the Robinson's, and going for a hike with the Nichol's are as vivid as the childhood Christmas dinner memories. See, military life is different then the average life. Our memories are spread across the ocean but we still hold tight to individual family traditions. We don't have to worry about things like medical, but fear the deployments and I.A. tours. It's a different lifestyle...we have chosen, and are prepared for raising our children in. An array of emotions are expected and apart of the deployment cycle. Surprisingly, with Amber I even see the cycle amongst our small group (Bible study) family. I know whats next, and it's the hardest part! Please keep our friend, her husband (also former military), and children in your prayers as they get through this difficult step... separation.

I look foreword to having them over for Thanksgiving dinner, one of her last dinners with her husband and babies for a long time.

Beans and a Secret!

Name one thing I can't get through the day without doing at least once in the kitchen?

I made some scrumptious Trader Joe's 78 Bean Soup for dinner tonight. Ok maybe it didn't have that many different kinds of beans but It was delicious! While eating, Bear let a little wind escape and said "See Mom, I eat beans - I fart!" and took another bite. Should I be proud of such great table manners? Both kids gobbled it down and I'm wondering if the working Daddy will like it. If I find a way to serve it in a tortilla I know he'll eat it. His mouth is watering for Thursday nights dinner. You see, I have a secret. I CAN cook! Don't laugh! Really I can. I make the best turkey ever. I can't say this about anything else, but it's even better then Emeril's! By the time I'm done with it a carving knife isn't necessary. The breastbone pulls right up and all the meat falls off. I can't wait to make it for Max's Grandma and show her I can do something in the kitchen that involves an oven.

Last night Max pulled out the Christmas toats. Shortly after I heard thump-thump-thump-thump followed by some inappropriate giggling. We went off to inspect and discovered their imagination works just like ours did when we were little. They too know how the toat lid works great for sliding down the stairs. Fortunately my stairs are not a straight flight. I can see my 3 year old taking after Kevin on Home Alone and opening the front door so he could fly down the stairs. Tis the season for the memory of watching that movie with my brother as he recited every word said. I still can't believe he's getting married!

Off to vacuum out my dryer and vent. I think I clogged it up with tissues left in my pockets from my draining nose. If this doesn't work I'll be calling family to ask what the second thing they would look at if their dryer wasn't drying. These are the days I miss calling and whining at housing. "Konnichiwa, my drier isn't working...I need a new one...Hai, I'll be home at 8:00 tomorrow morning...Dōmo arigatō." Then I look out the window at 7:56 to find them sitting outside their truck with the new drier unloaded looking at their watch.

Sigh....I miss those days.

I Feel Better Ramble...

Lots of miscellaneous updates-

I THINK, we are all better. I dare not say it like I mean it though.

We have a kitchen sink now (and counter top)! Yea! Two months of washing the dishes in the bathroom sink, and I got smart and started doing them in two 5 gallon buckets last week. Yes that was the highlight of my day yesterday. Once we address the warehouse ceiling effect I'll paint the kitchen and be happy, but Max wants to lay the back splash first. All I care about is being able to fix my family three meals a day in my kitchen with a sink. You have no clue how much you take kitchens for granted!

The kiddos had their 3rd and 6th "Horse" party at a local farm. See, that's what happens when you have no sink....you can't entertain. I lucked out again and did them together this year. Not sure how much longer before they want their own. We ate pizza, enjoyed the petting farm and busted a pinata. Other then the sloshy hay from raining all night and Bear throwing up as he was ready to wail on the pinata (big thanks to a friend for detouring the other kids eyes so they wouldn't heave), all turned out rather well. We are so blessed to have such nice friends. We had over 30 people in attendance! Two things would have topped it off: 1. Having Mrs. Cindy make the cake again this year, last year we got spoiled. ;P 2. Destiny! Destiny has been to all of Kalee (and Bear's) previous parties. Not even family can say that! She was at Kalee's 1st and 2nd parties in Coronado, 3rd in Negishi, and 4th and 5th in Yokosuka! We thought about the Rodriguez family during her 6th. *Note to the family-Don't whine about pictures! We took some. Don't you know we have all been sick? Even I haven't looked or loaded them on the computer. Patients!

I have some good news. I got a job! Well kinda. I am bringing the parent/toddler program I taught in Yokosuka to this area. I applied for a job at the local YMCA as a group instructor for children's classes and immediately got called in for an interview. Fortunately, I taught it for so long that it was a piece of cake to throw all my ideas on paper to present them with an idea of the class routine. Both people interviewing me thought it was a fantastic idea and the program was approved by the Director. Because of our crazy upcoming travel schedule, classes will start mid January. They want to start with 3 different age groups; 0-2, 3-5, and 6-8. My first two classes will be my typical PT Tots/Hoppy Hour classes. I am working on writing the older class right now. There is a possibility of teaching Stroll N' Sculpt (stroller fitness) in Spring/Summer too AND I expressed interest in getting Zumba certified to instruct a ZumbaKids class. The best part and the only way I'd ever agree to do it is my children come with me! I'm super excited to bring more child/family oriented classes to this area. Hopefully I will be able to help change the astonishing childhood obesity rate. After living in Japan I have realized not only how bad Americans eating habits are, but how lazy we are! Japanese walk everywhere! Americans complain about parking too far from the front door of the grocery store. Amazing!

If I made you aware of my orange size findings on the almond, I should be receiving a call today confirming the follow up results. I got a preliminary answer yesterday confirming my gut instinct...which is amazing, but awaiting the final report.

Off to do laundry. I want to crate something that sorts, washes, dries, folds, and puts away. Oh wait, God already did that...

BLECK!

Everyone in this house is wiped out. If I'm not doing laundry, becasue that comes with kids having the stomach flu...I'm standing in the hot shower trying to drain my head. I swear I have blown my head weight in snot just since I woke up (have an appointment shortly). Max, I saw his eye balls for the first time in about 24 hours. Whatever the ship pumped him and sent him home with was some good stuff.

Two things I have to tell you about- The kids Birthday Party on Saturday and a new program I'm bringing to this area.

Hopefully all of us will be better soon.

My baby boy is vomiting. I'm tired. And today they are having a combined 3rd and 6th birthday party. Humm. Whats wrong with this picture? He's not supposed to be sick today.

...Please pray he feels better for the party in 2 1/2 hours...
...his sister doesnt get it...
...and I'm able to function...

Opinionated Friends

I love having a nice balance of opinionated friends! Actually, I enjoy their educated opinions. Friends opinions are better then strangers being interviewed on TV. Why? Not because I'm easy to persuade unless candy is involved but because I know a little about their background and they understand mine. What is even better is my two most liberal friends like me for who I am and respect the fact that sometimes my opinions differ. I know your probably thinking... how are you still friends? It goes deeper then the subject of politics. Respect. I respect they are severely passionate about what they believe politically, they respect I'm passionate about boobs. See, great balance huh? Even Max and I respect each other enough to have a difference of opinions. I think the kitchen sink should be in already; he thinks going to work to earn money so we can pay the mortgage to have a house to install a kitchen sink in, is more important. My mind is stuck on turning every daily experience into an educational opportunity where as he oftentimes makes me see the bigger picture of things. Glad I have others (you know who you are) that do the same. I truly do value your opinions, even if they differ.

I don't think the country will be as gloomy as many are making it out to be (including myself at 23:00 on 04NOV08). After all, Obama saying "God Bless America" after a speech made me use about 22 muscles in my face to raise my cheeks and continue to define my crows feet.

Politics, I'm Saying it! **added info**

With lots of thought, I'm finally coming out of my shell. I had a bad experience about 8 years ago and decided to avoid political talk. Today I have decided to post about my opinion on the new President Elect. Let me start by saying in NO way do I have intentions on insulting anyone for their choice...elections are not about Infant Formula companies. Ick! If you do feel attacked read it again... standing on your head. I'm warning you in advance I'm writing my thoughts...and I do not think in complete sentences. Actually, how do I think? Really, I don't. This would be the perfect opportunity to grab a drink and your kids Halloween candy bucket, this isn't going to be short. Yum, candy!

I have formed a very strong opinion about both Obama and McCain on my own. I didn't need crazy false e-mails or stupid "I approve this message" commercials to do so. I didn't put as much emphasis on researching about the VP candidates but felt I did do enough to make a decision. I was born into a strong 'blood line' of Democrats and was told I had to be one by my Grandparents. In high school I took AP Government which funny enough was one of three classes I thoroughly enjoyed. At that time I leaned more towards the left wing and registered as a Democrat to vote. In November 2000, I was thrilled to vote for the next US President for the first time in my life. However, my life path was about to change... I was engaged to marry into the military. I did research only to learn as military the Republican party was going to benefit me, my family (Max), and my future more. Some vote for the overall big picture...that particular time I admit to voting for selfish reasons. Ever since, I have been changed. Yes, this year I voted for McCain. First off, I'm a Christian. I don't care if they are going to raise taxes for us or not, I vote my morals and values...and do not want GOD taken out of this country. We should all at least hold a high school Diploma (even though my spoken English and writing shows different) therefor know the history of what our country was founded in. GOD! It doesn't make me lean that direction...it makes me turn, and run that direction! Exactly where Obama stands as far as believing in God is kinda grey in my eyes... somehow, not knowing makes me feel un-easy. Matter of opinion now days. I'm an opinionated Prayer. That is all I can do. On that same note, McCain was not my choice of Republican party. It came down to voting for the lesser of the two evils! I think serving one tour in any US Armed Force should be a pre-req for becoming President. I will say McCain has earned my deepest respect...as with ALL honorable service members. Call me bias. That's OK. I'm married to a service member. I'm a sister of a service member. I'm a granddaughter of several service members and have countless friends serving. Of coarse I'm bias. If the president is going to serve our country as a Commander in Chief, how is he going to expect respect when he hasn't climbed the latter honorably? Felt the same way about Clinton. I respect President Elect Obama as an individual, but nothing like any former service member. Once again, this caused me to lean towards McCain. Then with McCain's former POW history? Hello!

Now to the part of my wound that has had salt poured on it. Race. Let me explain that by no means do I have anything against any skin color unless it's mine, red, and peeling in the Summer. I have seen how there is good and bad in every race. Does society 'profile'? Yes, I believe so. When we think hick...white. Gang...black. Child Predator...white male in his 40's. Freakin' smart people....Asian. Nasty bathrooms that smell like crap because toilet paper has been disposed of in the trash can... San Diego. Is it always that way? NO! In seeing my family alone I can vouch differently. I have had racial jokes told, text, and e-mailed to me. Do people really care if he chooses to turn the rose garden into a melon patch? If it's true (I doubt) this crunchy says go for it! Now don't get me wrong, I think it's fantastic to have a mixed President. In fact, I'm hoping it encourages the poorer young black Americans to 'change' and educate themselves to succeed in our future. That hope is not restricted to one race either. Welfare is crazy. Some people take advantage when there are families who could really use it while going to school to raise themselves above the low standard they were raised in...but don't qualify. I'm gunna say it... I think a good number of young black Americans voted solely to put a black man in office (but he's mixed IMO), just as white supremacy areas voted to keep him out...not because of what the candidates stood for. Stupid People! If McCain were black with the same morals and values and Obama were white still offering a change, I feel in my heart McCain would have had the upper hand (for the record I would have still voted my morals and values). Media needs to stop choosing the 'profiled' people to interview and spread their wings...it's not a black or white thing...as much as people are making it out to be. (*note-within the past day media has broadened their interviews to different people, social classes, etc.) Obama makes me feel uneasy...I would have preferred Colon Powell...not that I agree with all of him either...but I wouldn't feel so ___(I can't think of the word). Now to the stupid Americans that think he's going to be assassinated before inauguration...shut up already! Quit thinking so negatively. He's about to be the President of the United States! Give him four years to try to prove himself...if the majority of Americans feel he failed, he moves out! Amazing how that works huh? Assassinating him would just make this Country take a dozen steps back. Lets move forward...rise above. Anyone that would think of doing such a thing has a small brain. Ok, that part was intended to insult. As far as speaking, Obama has got it going on! That man is a fantastic speaker. I love listening. Too bad I don't like most of what he says. Sadly, that and maybe his medical plan are the only two things I truly see positive. All I can do is PRAY he proves me wrong. Obviously service members putting their life on the line isn't enough of a sacrifice...only time will tell how the defence budget cuts affect us.

Change, sure. Sounds great to me. It would have been nice to see someone breastfeeding in the house. ;P But at what cost?

********(Below added to original post on 09NOV08 at 16:13)******

Ooooh-ooooh! (jumping up and down with hand in air) Something else I forgot to mention....
Guns! I'm still searching for information from valid sources but the political advertisements made me a little uneasy. I believe guns should be off the streets (and AWAY from children). But don't make it impossible for sportsmen to use them. I guess you can call me a tree hugger sometimes...but killing Bambi bringing it home and using the whole animal-food, skin, and if your a part of my family it's quite normal to proudly display the 12 point buck head on the wall- is OK in my eyes. Call me weird. I'm used to it. I have a father, brother and husband that hunts and eats anything that moves. As for me, I'd sit in a tree stand with Max...only if I have a good book. But mention shooting range. I'll be prancing with excitement piddling like a puppy waiting by the door to take my baby out. Talking about a fine dinner doesn't turn Max on, but mention deer jerky, fishing, or MY 6 shooter (family heirloom)...it's a date! ;P Take guns out of criminals hands- I agree. Make them difficult to buy- go for it. Mandate safety classes- sounds great. But if prices are jacked up on sportsman stuff then make it fair and raise the tax evenly on sports equipment across the board.

Humm, should I get my CCW before it's too late?

Roll your jaw up, I know this may come as a shock to some. Shhh, it's a secret. :)

6-1=__

"If you have 6 toes, and I cut one of them off, how many toes would you have left?"

Yes, that came out of my mouth. She understands the concept but has a hard time applying it. Yesterday was a tough day in math.

I wonder who is going to end up on the windowless 5th deck padded wall wing of the hospital first?

Slippers

My Dear Friends,

Christmas is tight this year. I will be making bedroom slippers for you all as gifts. Please let me know your sizes. You'll most likely agree that it's a splendid idea, and should you wish to do the same, I've included the instructions.

Simple and Easy Instructions:
You need four maxi pads to make a pair. Two of them get laid out flat, for the foot part. The other two wrap around the toe area to form the top. Tape or glue each side of the top pieces to the bottom of the foot part. Decorate the tops with whatever you desire, silk flowers (this is most aesthetically appealing), etc. These slippers are: * Soft and Hygienic * Non-slip grip strips on the soles * Built in deodorant feature keeps feet smelling fresh * No more bending over to mop up spills * Disposable and biodegradable * Environmentally safe * Three convenient sizes: (1.) Regular, (2.) Light and (3.) Get out the Sand Bags. I've attached a photo of the first pair I made so that you can see the nifty slippers for yourself.... Awaiting your response. It's crucial that I get the right size for each one of you.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

PS- I'll even go the extra mile and make them out of organic unbleached cotton upon your request.

GO VOTE...

...even if it is for my opposing party. Let your voice be heard! If we aren't singing in unison then I have some serious research ahead of me to jump ship. Maybe I'll become Canadian? No. Mexican? C'mon, I pushed two out. Doesn't that benefit me somehow? Oh, never mind. I'll just have to listen to my Nana and become a politician myself. By that time she won't be around to fall out when I'm debating her party. My Mom always said I could be the next Marsha Clark. Whoops, off topic.

I can't wait to be relieved of kid duty so I can voice my opinion and VOTE! I'm proud to be an American! Today more then ever, I feel strongly about my opinion. The media drives me crazy... my poor kids are tired of it too. The other day Kalee told me something and followed with "I'm Kalee Madison and I approve this message". She has also said "Are they ever going to stop talking about Rock Obama and John Cane?" Once again, she left me speechless.

...couple more hours before I search for my name on the ballot. What? Look at our awful choices. I'm more qualified then some on there having served almost 8 years as a Military wife...

Already?

One year ago today we landed on US soil. We re-learned the American culture and have not spoken Englineese since. But secretly...I miss that place. Who knows where his career will take us next. Back to Japan? Italy? Spain? Heck, anywhere in Europe works for me! Don't call me crazy. Once you get a bit of international living in your blood it's not as foreign of a concept. Geez, exactly one year!

Halloween = Pie

I sat back and thought about what we did last year on Halloween. We packed out our express shipment (un-accompanied baggage) and started our 2 day stay at the Robinson's abode. Since we don't celebrate Halloween we took the kiddos out bowling with some friends Bobbie, Aiden and Abby. As all the kids were preparing to leave, Max got a hold of Chuck's cape/mask and knelt down to their eye level...which yes, scarred them for life and gave us a great laugh. Not long ago I asked Bobbie if her kids remembered. A year later they all still talk about the "alien".

This year Max has duty and we don't have the cool friends around us like we did last year. Since it's just me and the kiddos, I asked Kalee what she would like to do tonight. Her response "Um, make a punkin' pie with lots of whoop-cream." Sounds good to me.

...the neighbor just called. She made cupcakes and knows I wont answer the door...gotta run. :P

Happy Birthday to my little Brother. No matter how old you are you'll always be my little Bub!

Walking What?

Yesterday was the 3rd morning in a row Kalee threw up (just one time in the morning). The first time I thought it was her gag reflex from coughing (and clearing out all the night time drain). Obviously 3 days later something was going on, so I called the pediatric clinic at the Naval hospital for an appointment.

  • Left home at 12:00 because the parking garage is horrible and navigating through the bridges in that compound is nearly impossible.
  • Checked in at 12:30 for her appointment.
  • Medical Student saw her, listened to her and called the Dr. (like Balboa, this is a teaching hospital).
  • Dr. listened to her breathing and sent her back immediately for a breathing treatment.
  • Listened again when the treatment was complete.
  • Waited for her to cough hoping it moved things around and listened again.
  • Sent her down for a chest x-ray... she did fantastic and was amazed to see the pictures of her bones.
  • Went back up to the Pediatric clinic to find out she has atypical pneumonia (AKA: walking/double pneumonia). She is being treated with an inhaler and an antibiotic. If I don't see signs of getting better by Friday we have to go back in.
  • Ran upstairs to the women's clinic to see if I could catch my GYN as she came out of the O.R. After doing research I finally agreed to her first choice prescription suggestion (a few of you know whats going on) and asked her to put it in the system.
  • Back down to the pharmacy to wait 1 hour and 40 minutes for the prescriptions to get filled.

...got home at 8:10. Funny enough I spent less time doing that then if I had brought her in to that ER. Crazy Hospital...always an all day venture...but the Pediatric clinic makes it well worth it.

Off to make her some Japanese apple tea. Fortunately, a friend recently re-stocked me which pays off during times like this. ;) Thanks Cindy!

A Book About Ballin'

I'm exhausted! Yesterday we went to the farm with a friend we met in Japan Emily and her two girls. The kids just love it there, and might I add I took some adorable pictures of her princesses. :) I need to start a portfolio for personal purposes. To top things off, last night my Mom had me up late proofreading a book she needed to get published by the end of this week. Yes Renee, I see you cringing. ;) I may not have your fantastic proofreading abilities "but I, tell, you My mom, has a intertaining way of Doing, things! At least, she was able two get her pointe acrost, sometimes, she said, the same thing ate times in almost the same way and I wasnt able to take a breathe becasue she didnt think she got the pointe acrost and she wanted to make sure she did?" OK, so it's wasn't quite that bad but I'm sure you could imagine she needed a little help. Click here to look at the book. It's about my sister Jessica's history of ballin'. I know I have a handful of readers that remember when she was in diapers. Believe it or not she will be 14 next month! You read that right!

...I made delicious Chicken and Dumplings for dinner on this chilly fall evening. I have to thank my Mom for teaching me how to make her fantastic dumplings....and leaving the recipe for me on the Bisquick box.

...ok Mom, where's my twenty bucks? LOL ...J/K

Not Me This Time!!!

Oh wait til you hear this one...

The other day about 9:00am I got a special request from my Dear Husband for pot roast. Being the good wife and cook I am, I made a commissary trip to pick up some meat and do a little shopping last minute. When I make a roast it's usually in the crock pot by 8:ooam...but not this time. By the time I got home, unloaded the groceries and sleeping kids, put the cold food away, browned the meat and cut the veggies it was after noon! Mind you I still don't have kitchen counters or a kitchen sink...so that complicates this task. At 4:30 Max said it needed longer. I looked at it around 5:30 and it was far from done. Darn! There goes Max's idea of having pot roast, spaghetti it is. The next evening while I was out running he wanted to get a head start on heating it up. I came home and saw he was hovering over the roast so I took that opportunity to take a shower and bathe the kids. I walked downstairs and a very familiar smell filled my nose as I inhaled. Kalee met me on the stairs and said "I can't find Dad... the cars are all here...he's not in the man cave (garage) and the kitchen is smokey!" I rushed in, pulled the pot roast off the stove and shook my head thinking 'better him then me'. I called his cell only to find him across the street at the neighbors house. Now I can eat burnt food from the grill...and sometimes form the oven. But the toxins form the burnt pot don't settle well with me psychologically.

...He made a trip to Subway.

That man needs to quit taking cooking lessons from me!

My Kids Said What?

K: Mom, I really take after Dad.
Me: Why do you say that Monkey?
K: My butt stinks really bad like his!

That says a lot considering I don't ever use the bathroom by myself.

Then she starts with this dreaded conversation...
K: Is today, tomorrow?
Me: No, today is yesterdays tomorrow.
K: So what is the next day?
Me: Tomorrow!
Kalee: You said that the day before today.
Me: You mean yesterday.

This conversation began when she was about 4. Finally she is starting to get the concept of 'tomorrow' but I'm still puzzled at why we continuously have this conversation. She drives me crazy!

For those that don't know I refuse to cater to pickyness. In my opinion it is embarrassing when we go to someones for dinner and they don't eat what is given to them. At one point Kalee didn't like veggies. I told her she was allowed to not like one vegetable but had to eat the rest when served. She choose to not like asparagus... but loves them since my Mom prepared them for her. Now she avoids cooked green bell peppers but eats them raw so I can't complain. Last night Bear didn't eat but four bites of dinner. Yes this mean Mommy told him he was going to be hungry later. Sure enough after we brushed teeth...

B: Mom, I starving.
Max: Mom made you dinner but you didn't eat.
B: Uh-huh (as in yes I did) I had 4 bites.
Me: You should of had more bites.
B: I eat (signed eat), it go in my tummy (rub stomach) and in my leg (pointing down so innocently).... I still starving.

Dad gave in. "You can have rice cakes, applesauce, cheese stick, banana, cereal...what ever you want son." Uh-huh...who's the sap?

Let's talk political!

It's possible. I actually talked to a friend about political stuff. I guess telling my Nana eight years ago I was not voting for who she was voting for... almost causing her to have a heart attack, while watching her eyes well, the heat waves escape her nose and ears, and her lip quiver... detoured me from expressing my opinion to everyone. Until yesterday! A friend of mine -knowing I keep my opinion to myself- said "I take it your not a fan of him." Well, um as a matter of fact no, I'm not! It was that simple! Everyone has different opinions. Isn't that why we vote? An hour later we were still close friends with different opinions. Maybe it was just the idea of disappointing my Grandparents? What ever it was, now I'm not as quiet about politics as I am about my bra size. Woah, bad analogy. I just bought my first non nursing bra since I had Kalee and announced my deflated size. Back to topic...I missed the first 45 minutes of the debate last night (had bible study) but made it in time to hear about the health care and education plans. Interesting stuff. Honestly being military I never had to think about the health end of things. Active military and their families have fantastic medical! I have had 2 children and my only medical related expense was gas to and from. Nope not even a co-pay. Now Bears dental expense is a different story...poor kid has my teeth! Now more then ever I see friends affected by medical coverage so just because it's not my primary concern currently, doesn't mean I don't think about it not being a concern at all. Fortunately, neither of these two crazy candidates will be in office by the time Max retires (as funny as that sounds it's only about 9 years away).

...I still think politicians are liars and I would make a better President of a lactation company then either. Oh how formula companies would HATE me!!!

Cow's Milk?

Bear: May I piece (please) ave (have) nu-nu ni-night?
Me: No son it's not nu-nu time.
Bear: But I use my nam-ers (manners). I deepy (sleepy).
Me: Yes, you used great manners. Don't you think your getting too old for nu-nu?
Bear: No, Daddy too old for nu-nu. (pointing to Max)
Daddy: (with a smirk) Do you want some cows milk? (we define where it came from because we use goat's milk too)
Bear grabbed my cheeks, looked at me dead straight in the eye, and said "MOOOOO!" I laughed so hard I almost peed my pants.

Oh yes, our kids learn sarcasm real young. They must, with having Max and I as parents.

I'm voting YES!

This makes my blood boil! I may choose to keep my mouth shut about who I'm voting for President...but I can't sit back and let this happen. I AM voting YES ON 8! Yet another reason I'm glad we have not put our children in Public Schools even though we pay for it. At the very least, parents should be allowed to opt out just like they are given the opportunity to do with sex ed.

On another note- I went through heck to figure which state/county to register. I last voted in California but was it Riverside County or San Diego County? Or did I need to register in Arizona since I have an Arizona licence (that doesn't expire until 2047 I might add)? But I reside in Virginia...to add a fourth twist to the situation. Needless to say I talked to everyone in the Virginia and California Registrars office to figure out where to register. My Point? If I was able to do it so could you...even if your overseas...but do your research...because politicians are liars!

Disney it up!

Last night we saw Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck, TowMater, Lightening McQueen, Simba, Scar, Pumba, Timone, Ariel, Sebastian, Flounder, Tinkerbell....(you get the point) on ICE! OH, yes we did! A friend called Wednesday to tell me she had an opportunity to buy tickets for $5.50 a piece and wanted to know if we wanted some. Hello? Disney on Ice for less then a gallon of gas... I'll take it. ;) We can't even go to the movies or a bowling alley that cheap. Another reason I miss the overseas lifestyle. We made it to the Coliseum where Max used to work 10 years ago, found our seats and Max disappeared to go say hi to his friends that still work there. Don't worry, he made it back in time to take a nap before the show ended. I guess if you see one you've seen them all. :) The kids enjoyed it but Bear kept wanting to see Mickey and Goofy after they left stage. I reminded him he lived with Goofy.

This weekend is panning out to be very busy. We are more then motivated to get things done because I still have no appliances, counter top or sink in my kitchen. Thank goodness for my electric griddle! Can you picture me sitting on the floor flipping pancakes? Well, I have been. My cabinets are beautiful! I absolutely love them. You'll get pic's once it's done. Today we are working on the lighting...ick...electrical....and it's time to go watch Max again.

Hopefully I will be able to have Bear's Birthday party here.....errr.

Sound...

the trumpets! My kitchen cabinets are being installed as I type!

Hopefully by the end of the week I'll have a stove, dishwasher, sink, and counter top. You know, all the things we take for granted....

Pictures soon to come.

+ - x / Yeah!

My 5 year old understands the concept of multiplication and division! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!! I think I was in at least second grade before I understood that. Now if I could only get her to quit writing her letters and numbers where I have to use the mirror to see them... her penmanship looks just as good as my cooking. ;)

Exam

As mentioned, I had my annual and a half appointment yesterday. I was due for it in February but due to child care reasons I had to wait until now. My appointment was at 14:00 but the clinics request a 15 minute prior check in. The one day I didn't have a book for entertainment...not even a bratty kid was in the waiting room for me to observe. I waited from 1:40 until about 4:30 because they were waiting for blood work results before I dressed up in the fancy paper robe. Take that back...I did have a book, but it would have looked a little strange reading Peter Pan without my kids. All I thought about while waiting was if they used metal or plastic. Metal, oh how every women hates the cold metal...I have always wanted to look at the instrument after the fact to see if whatever jelly they use freezes on it. I'm all about safe and natural... but how natural is it to have a Dr. take an instrument out of the ice tray, stick the fancy jack with light attached all the way up in my hoo-ha, open it and say "Hum, where are your cervix?". Knowing my body I had to reply "They like to float high" but he was so far up there I thought he was looking at my tonsils. Since that wasn't enough he swabbed the bulkhead, poked it with wood and use an eye mascara applicator to scratch things up on his way out!?!?

I hate not being able to study for this exam. Hopefully I'm done until next year.

Liquid Electric

We are getting things done that should have been done forever ago around here. I told Max he wont get his Birthday present until I at least have baseboards. How's that for motivation! Why? Because I'm taking him to his favorite restaurant that Kalee calls "The Peanut Steak House", Texas Roadhouse (same menu as Roadhouse Grill for ya Californians). Still, you might be lost? Well, have I mentioned I only belong in the kitchen with a sponge and soap? He wants to eat for goodness sakes! So yes, tomorrow after my lovely annual and a half exam he will be nailing...the baseboards.

OK,OK, I'm going to hear it from my husband dearest if I don't explain the whole story as to why it's taken so long. "You see, the electrical could only support blah-blahhhh-bla-blah...." then my hearing came back...."and according to Google I have to change this or it will continue to short wah-wah-wah..." and when I lifted my head out of the water he said "but I need you to shut down the computer and come watch me in case something happens." WHAT? Woah partner...you talked to fast for me (knowing darn right well that's not true because Dawn is my Mom).

What am I supposed to do if 'something happens'?
"Oh just grab a piece of wood and knock me away."
Excuse me?
"Just don't use anything metal."
Your kidding right?

A few minutes after standing in the garage talking to the neighbor the air compressor kicks on. Max yelled, "Hey it works and I didn't even have to get out of this bucket of water".

You think I'm elaborating? Me? Ha! Tell ya what, come spend a day at my house!

"Eye" a Puffy Mess

I woke up this morning with swollen eyes from last night...had to cake the makeup a little thicker in certain areas to take away from the puffy mess. While at our Life Group (small group Bible study) that I was almost about to bail out of because I was not feeling that great, He answered a prayer. The past few weeks I couldn't figure out if I was listening hard enough or with the right ear. Last night, the fog dissipated. No longer am I confused about which path I should take...and once I get there what means I have. I love this feeling of certianty. It bugs me how sometimes it feels like forever before I get an answer...but I now realize why...and it's all about His timing. Amazing! What an awesome God!

I know

I know, I've been MIA. Max decided to finally do my baseboards (they have been off since we started tiling) and I have been busy walking right behind him picking up fixing food and handing him sweet tea.

I'll be back.

Tonight is the night....

... that Navy Chief's look forward to all year. It's the night before the new Chief's get pinned! This is the most talked about evening of events amongst the Mess. I remember the night before Max got pinned like it was last week. I'll bet every involved wife is doing or thought about doing what I did that evening. Sorry, only Chief Wife's are privy to that info...you know cuz' most Chief Wives have a 'lil more of something in them (Yokosuka friends know what I mean) then Wardroom Wives. A very memorable time in a Sailor's career.

Off to bed and reminisce.

Magic

I was picking up towels and clothes while Bear was taking a bath... I keep reminding these kids that clothes need help walking to the hamper. I hear him talking to himself, "it's magic... wow... there... not there... it's magic." so I turn around kinda curious and ask, "What's magic?". It was then that I realized he was spread eagle bent in half looking at himself.

"Look Mom, it's magic....little ball in there....not there, no spot anymore."

Bwahaha...I guess now is the time he learns a little about his own anatomy.

COMREL Navy Media

I miss AFN. Those military folks that have lived overseas understand, I'm sure. It's the lack of hearing the 'Daily News Update' tune (on link below) and watching what our military is doing stateside and abroad. The best part were the commercials and Combat Camera. I wish I would have recorded some of them... they made me laugh. When my brother was in Iraq I remember seeing him on Combat Camera and was going crazy trying to find it on the Internet to send to my Mom. Unfortunately being stateside we no longer get AFN but I had a friend from Okinawa tell me she saw Max's COMREL story. Immediately I searched and found the Navy's story. (In the beginning you'll hear a little voice "Daaaa-daaaa"....that was Bear.) Thought I'd share.

Also, thought I'd give a tiny bit of history on where we lived when we first moved to Japan. This building in Negishi was visible from our housing. In fact, it provided nice shade plenty of times when I was pregnant with Bear and needed a break before walking up a hill then down a hill to go to the commissary or exchange. Those were the days I hated Japan. Eventually, I learned to like it...and funny enough I now miss it.

Copy Cat

Max is a miniature Max. That doesn't make sense does it? Little Max is a miniature Max. Umm, yeah, no. Bear is just like his Daddy! :P No really, he is. Max set his coke can down, burped (imagine that) and said excuse me...Bear put his water cup down, forced a grunt out, and said excuse me. Max stretched and yawned....Bear stretched and yawned. Max scratched his head...Bear scratched his head. They played Pete-and-repeat at least a dozen times before I said "wish you weren't deployed when I was working on potty training him." Max told me "It was easy, all I had to do was move over."

Funny enough, Bear's accidents have been limited since.

Brestfeeding in the House?!?!

Many know if I discuss politics, I avoid revealing which party I plan on casting my vote for. The first year I was able to vote (2 presidential elections ago) my brother asked who my pick was. I replied with a smile "Al Bush". No, my sarcasm still has not ceased. I remember sitting at the table with my extended family when this topic was brought up. I was almost disowned that day. Since then I am vague with most of my political answers to friends and extended family. I realized I do stand up for what I truly believe....even though I'm registered with one party but have voted the other every time (been wanting to fix that every time...oops). Regardless of what you or I agree with or disagree with, I would have never imagined reading this during a Presidential Campaign! However you feel about Governor Sarah Palin I think this is a remarkable quote.

The mother of five told People magazine she is still nursing her baby son, Trig, born in April. But she did not think she'd have any trouble balancing her family obligations with the challenges of the campaign or the vice presidency if the Republican ticket prevails in November.
“What I’ve had to do, though, is in the middle of the night, put down the Blackberries and pick up the breast pump. Do a couple of things different and still get it all done,” Palin said of balancing work and family.

Above quote found here.

Regardless of how anyone feels about her political views, it's just awesome to know she is feeding her baby the good stuff!

I So Big...

B: I so big! (lifting hands high)
Me: Yes, son you are.
B: I so strong! (flexing muscles and says with a growl)
Me: Yes, son you are.
B: I wipe my own butt!

I could not hold the laughter.

Camping Story

So you wanna know all about our trip? You impatient people! ;) A couple weeks ago we planned a camping trip with 5 families going...which also happen to be neighbors on our street. Every other week or so we plan a "Fun Friday". Usually consists of gathering in a neighbors backyard, grilling dinner and playing a game like hillbilly horseshoes. This past week we decided to do a camping trip about an hour and a half away from here at a state park for the weekend. Why do they call it a "State Park" when where we live is a "Commonwealth"? As unique as California is, I'll leave being a resident of Virginia for others. :P So, I'll give it to you in chronological order...

Short version: We had fun!

Long version:
Friday: Max got off work early and we loaded up my car because he didn't want to take the 'mini truck' (AKA: his car, he doesn't want to offend it by calling it a car, crazy.) Walked the kids bikes to the neighbors truck who was planning to leave shortly after us. We, our family and one of the neighbors, took off. We decided to take the 460 so we could avoid the "Friday bumper to bumper on the 64" towards Richmond. HA! You mean doing 55 mph in a 60 mph is considered traffic? I still don't believe Virginians know what traffic is. My definition of traffic is SoCal! To me bumper to bumper means I only use the catch point on the clutch to move 2 feet, no need for the gas pedal. About three quarters of the way into the trip we noticed blue lights flying our direction from way behind. Max pulled to the side to allow him to pass...instead, he pulled up to the neighbor following us and pointed to pull over, and pointed to us to pull over. What? Why is he pulling us over? It can't be the tint on the windows. This vehicle is registered in Kentucky (don't ask...lol). Mr. Police man comes up to the window and asks for licence, proof of insurance and registration. Huh? Max politely asked what the problem was. "I clocked you at 57 in a 35." said the man in a goofy looking hat. What, I thought that was 55?!?! Max is the goodie goodie driver that pays attention to speed and I'm...well let's just say, different. I mean he set cruise control to 57 in what he thought was 55! In my book 55 means 60 and I can do at least 8 more then that. We got the ticket and moved on to stop another driver. We asked the neighbor if he saw the speed limit change...and he didn't either! That means 3 adult drivers missed the speed limit change from 55 to 35! Stupid speed trap! I instantly called the family that was leaving shortly after us and gave them a heads up on where the fishing hole was. Upon arrival to the camp site and after getting settled in we told all our neighbors about Max's first ticket in over 10 years. How come the one neighbor said "You must have gotten it on 460 in___(name of city)" How did you know? I guess that area has been written up in the paper several times because issuing tickets is their main source of income. Nice! If I got pulled over I would be forced to not only get a Virginia licence, which would suck because that would force me to give up my Arizona licence that expires in 2047 (seriously! see why I don't want a VA licence?), but I probably would have voiced my opinion on dropping the speed from 55 only for it to be 35 for about 50 feet and jump back up to 55. UGH!

Our neighbors made fun of us for having such a huge tent. We have a 10 man, 4 room, 18x20 foot tent that barely fit on the tent pad and almost requires us to pay taxes. They were planning on landscaping "The Pino Pad". I made everyone remove shoes in the entry way just like at home. We had the living room available for board games in case it rained....but it didn't. Beautiful weather all weekend!

For dinner that night we roasted weenies. The neighbor boy was kind enough to say "Kalee, do you want my weenie?". UM, thanks but NO! LOL I do not buy hot dogs because I don't like to feed my kiddos stuff full of...stuff. But I broke down and got all beef with no artificial flavors, colors, fillers or byproducts...but still have nitrates in them...eeew. Then we roasted marshmallows. My favorite part. I set mine on fire, blew it out and scarfed it down. Don't evaluate. I know marshmallows are made of corn syrup and...stuff. Oh, your laughing about me burning them? C'mon, would you expect any different from me?

Saturday: Our expert camper neighbors made bacon egg and cheese sandwiches. YUM! Way too much work for me though. I was prepared to feed the kids 'donuts with pink icing' (whole wheat bagels with strawberry cream cheese) or a Dannimal and oatmeal. After getting cleaned up we went fishing. Max cast a line for Bear to hold his pole and 2.3 minutes later he managed to cast it himself and caught a tree. Five minutes after that both of their attention spans expired so Max and our Neighbor Scott took them on a canoe ride. After lunch Bear refused to nap so we went to the water park. They had a park inside a pool that was about my knee deep that the kids loved. I tried not to think about the amount of pee in that water....but it didn't work. Kalee and Daddy raced down the slides at least a dozen times. Surprised me because she usually doesn't tolerate water in the face well. That afternoon we watched the staff feed animals at the nature center which was the educational highlight of the day. Bear was fascinated watching the snakes eat mice...which gave me the heebie-jeebies. The staff was very willing to educate us about the different animals. It reminded me of walking into my brothers room....deer heads on the wall with bear, raccoon, and fox furs displayed around all the reptiles. It was finally time to eat dinner and our expert camping neighbors made Brunswick stew and Peach Cobbler in a dutch oven on the open fire. Delish! Yes, I still burned myself a marshmallow for a smore.

Sunday: After breakfast we packed up to head back. Max wanted to take the long way to avoid the speed trap. Instead I drove home...slowing down to 33 mph in the famous area on the 460.

Would I tent camp again? Sure. But not until we have a van or truck to haul all the little things I forgot... like the air mattress, can opener, lighter, coffee, kids potty (so I don't have to walk to the bathroom 12 times a day between the 2 kids), broom to sweep out our house tent...yeah I'm OCD

...and for those that know me and my showering obsession....I still showered every morning and every night. :P I would not have gone otherwise.

Say What?

Max: "Kalee, why do you talk so much?"
Kalee: "Because that's what girls do!"

Bwhahahah! Max looked at me in shock. Pure proof she's mine. Reminds me of the shirt my Dad and Step-Mom got her that says "I'm just like Mommy, I don't shut up!"

Officially Warned...

..the other day by a friend against going to the Yokosuka NEX this time of year. ;) Halloween stuff is out already. That means my favorite candy corn is waiting for me! Last year was easier being overseas and not having a 24 hour Super Wal-Mart right around the corner (but I still managed to put away a 2 lb. bag handful every 2 days). Lets see how long I can resist temptation. Hum. Can I make it a whole season?

Today's COMREL (links added at bottom)

Oh, sorry I'm speaking military....lemme translate for those not familiar with the Navy's mighty fine acronym language. In civilian COMREL means Community Relations.

Max helped organize a COMREL for sailors aboard his ship. The event took place today and they demolished two houses that were condemned due to April's tornado damage. At one point I was looking to refer a sailor his direction and he was no where to be found. I heard a power tool and knew he couldn't be far from it...Do I know my husband or what?!?!?!

Why would you want to put a hole in the roof? So Max could stand IN it.

Always posting colors...even if it is in a pile of rubbish.

This picture says it all. Max had to jump through hoops...that He provided. When one door was closed Max was gently directed to another He just opened. This opened eyes of many, not excluding my own. I sit here in awe of how He worked today. Thanks to several volunteers (over 70 in all) from the ship, our home church, and local community businesses, two more families have begun the healing process and are ready to start rebuilding.

Giving God the glory! ALL OF IT!

13 hours later I'm pooped from running around. Off to watch the local news to see if they are airing Max's interview tonight ....guess you'll have to wait another day to hear about camping. :P

***********Edited Below**********

Here is the story in the Virginia Pilot.... and not sure how long this will be aired but here is the short story that came across the local airwaves. Other locals have notified us that they had a longer interview last night but I'm still trying to locate it.

Say it! My children!!!

Patients!

Patients friends!

I'm working on a blog about our trip but need to submit a chit for permission to publish. ;) You'll understand why later...unless your my Mom who got the Police story from my brother and called to ask what ER was all about...lol (FYI- not any of my family). Crazy Mom.

One Year Later...

We are back. I can't believe we got more then 40 miles away from home, stayed the night and did not visit any family. That's a first! I was expecting to kick back and have fun... boy was I misleading myself, somehow we missed the kick back part. Camping is lots of work, but we had a blast anyway! I want to tell you all about how Kalee learned about a what a police man does and how non-military ER's wait is a lot quicker.. but I have about 9 loads of laundry to do, a cooler to unpack, stuff to put away, and a car to clean out. So basically what I'm saying is you'll have to wait til later. :P

Today is also my 1 year blogging anniversary. I can't believe I still have readers other then my Mom. Thanks guys!

First Lesson

We had our first violin lesson today. Yes "we"! Kalee and I! Look, if I can learn to play something it may drown out my singing.... I'm tired of hearing "your hurting my ears". Almost as much of a shock as "your mouth smells" after a morning yawn. Or walking into the bathroom after Max fumigated.

Bear is insisting on one of his own. I can't see spending the money on one that will probably have the sound post knocked over weekly because it was used as a racket to hit an orange across the room. I'm considering a homemade one. Kalee made a guitar out of rubber bands and a rectangle tissue box....add a toilet paper roll to one end and a wooden dowel for the bow...voila. Think he'll buy it? Maybe that will be tomorrow's craft since it's time to start clearing out the old 'junk craft' box. They would rather build castles and make things out of items from that box then using Lincoln logs or items from Michael's. If you have kids try it! Start saving toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, cool whip containers, egg cartons, plastic containers berries come in, pickle jar (for Kalee obviously since it's glass), ice cream cups, yogurt containers. Just look at it before you throw it in the trash. We use cool whip and butter containers (from neighbors because I of coarse prefer to make my own, if you want my recipes you have to call me standing on your head balancing the phone on your nose...I'll know your desperate to become a crunchy...lol) for water play outside or bathtub toys. They find it more entertaining then toys and I'm all about reduce, reuse and recycle. But beware, don't bring the box into the bathroom with a 2 year old like mine, or you'll be fishing out soggy paper towel cardboard. Don't know what is worse, sifting out cardboard fibers or toxic goop.

*When Max fixes his camera I'll take a .mpg of her telling you about what she learned during today's lesson. The video will be added here*
