'Skate' in the Aquarium

Today Max knew he was going to have a short day so we dropped him off at school, went to Target to grab a few things, and picked Max back up so we could head to the Aquarium. What a wonderful day we had together and after seeing 3 full buses of little ones that wasted more time learning how to stand in line then exploring the massive amounts of educational exhibits in the facility...a lost school child... what a great reminder of why we choose to home school :)

My little 7 year old "Docent" surprised several of the Docents that were on the schedule today. She explained the difference of skates and sting rays, identified the 4 different kinds of sting ray's in the ray touch pool, showed her Daddy the parts of the horseshoe crab and informed him they have blue blood and are a part of the spider family, explained why snakes shed skin and found a 'mermaid purse'. Bear warmed my heart too. Yes, it's a good thing I has tennis shoes on. :)

I am so blessed to be a stay at home mom and do what I feel parents belong doing, educating (school teachers instruct, parents are still responsible for enforcing and being a part of the child's education) and training their children. Just when I think I'm screwing my kids up, I have a day like today and realize I'm doing what God has called me to do. I'm so thankful for a extremely supportive husband as well.

Now I'm on a mission to find a sports bra that is just as supportive.

Afraid

As we were getting ready to leave for church...

Me: Bear, put your coat on.
Bear: I don't need a coat. I'm a Bay-ah (bear)! I have fuah (fur)!

And then tonight Max was attacking the honey-do-list and heard something I never want to hear "Hey Babe, come watch me! If I get electrocuted call 911." What?!?! Ok, ok, small price to pay so I don't have to see that ugly wire strung over my bathroom door anymore. So, I hung out in the attic and all the meanwhile Bear got INSIDE my washing machine. When I asked him what he was doing he replied with his duh-Mom voice, "I'm washing myself!" That kid has such an imagination!

I'm afraid that Bear is going to grow up like Max. Yes, at this point, I'm very afraid.

Maybe If I Tell Max The Eye Dr. Has Tools...

Yes, eye appointments are due for everyone in this house! Today the kids and I got our exams. I hate to admit, it's been a whole decade since I have seen an eye Doctor. The only reason I remember that is because I last went to the office where my friend Laura worked...when I was still in High School! Wow. Bear, only high on eggs and cheese, was looking with his hands the whole visit. If I didn't know better I'd a thought he was blind! He was so curious as to what this did... why the light was so bright... how that machine worked... or why the "E" was upside down. His eyes are fairly normal. Yes, I only said eyes for a reason. Unless, of course, you find another normal child the starts spinning around the second they lay eyes on something with sugar in it...like yogurt. Kalee was the perfect patient. I tell you that kid is the COMPLETE opposite of Bear. In almost every way! She has an astigmatism and is far sighted in her left eye. The Doctor also told me that there is some kind of correlation between A-topic dermatitis and 'so-n-so-and-such-n-such' in the eye so that means she gets Rx glasses for any activity that involves reading and eye drops. We tried different glasses on in the office and tried some on at Wal-Mart. I think I'm going to take her to Sams Club tomorrow to see what selection they have and price them too. My eyes, well... they still work. For long term reading she suggested glasses for me too. I am also far sighted and have an astigmatism in my left eye. Like mother, like daughter...I guess. She noticed a sebaceous cyst that looks benign on my eyelid that had been there for oh.....5 years?! She wants me to give up using jojoba oil as an eye makeup remover for a month and try some other eye lid chemical wash to see if that makes a difference. If not I may get sent to plastics. Not quite sure what that means but my mind sure is wandering with what kind of plastic surgery can be done on eyelids. Or if they can add eyelashes. I'd rather save the money to lift and fill something else that sags about 3 feet below my eyes! Oh wait...farsighted, right! I meant 2.5 feet below my eyes.

Oh the joys.

Bear just decided to remove the remote from our space heater and slip a finger skate board in that hole. Yes, you guessed right... it skated down inside the heater and got stuck! Kalee could see the edge of the board so she decided to get needle-nose pliers to attempt to remove it for him. After about 5 minutes of unsuccessful consistency, she threw in the towel. A few minutes later I saw Bear digging at a screw on the back of the unit. I asked him what he was doing and he replied ever so sharply, "I'm using these nosey pliers to take this thing apart Mom!"

Nosy? Hum, now I understand why men like tools!

Break Time

First of all, I forgot to add something to the previous list....
-ZUMBA!!!
Hello, Averi! How could you forget that one? (Thanks Andrea for the bonk on the head)

Kinda funny too. Because the reason I came here to blog...

Happiness = almost 3 hours of Mommy time at a ZUMBATHON. Now lets see if I can get out of bed to fix vegan pumpkin french toast tomorrow morning. :)

Yes, Zumba is a break...because it's FUN! :)

Before I was a Mom I liked staying out til wee hours with friends. Now that I'm a Wife/Mom and I find something of interest, I stay up with Letterman and navigate my way through Google. Funny how things change.

The past 2 weeks my interest has been mostly curriculum's and parasites. I really want to go to the local home school convention in June! And I have a weird fascination with watching videos of parasites. Interesting huh?!
