To me, cold is cold. There is chilly (freezing for the average person SoCal) where you need to wear warmer clothes...and cold when you must armor your skin with undershirts, thermals, long sleeve, sweatshirts, heavy coats, gloves, scarves, earmuffs triple socks and Vaseline all at the same time. I know my 'It's 50 degrees here in California and we are in full length coat' friends of mine are asking why the Vaseline. People in the Alaska use it for a reason! I can't believe I can say it's almost as cold as it was when we lived in Japan and our time in Rhode Island doesn't compare to these past 2 days of the Artic Blast we have received here. WOW! When I have to suit up for 30 seconds to grab frozen liquid soap from the back stock pantry in the garage, and have to use a towel to touch the door knob so I don't get frostbit.....it's cold! Instantly after walking back in the house my toes hurt as they defrosted like when you get in a hot bath with cold feet. Ouch!
So yeah, cold is cold....but I forgot how cold, cold was. ;) I couldn't imagine being in one of the Northern states dealing with months of this. Burrr!
I'm ready for the double digits on my thermometer again!

Oh Averi if you only knew what cold was.. haha. Just kidding. Let's just say on thursday night/friday morning we were 45 Degrees BELOW ZERO!!! So let's see my car battery died because it was so cold and one of our pipes froze because it was so cold and so yeah seriously you should come stay here for one night and then you would LOVE having it be in the teens out there!! haha. Hope this doesn't sound rude!!! Cause I love you too much to say anything mean to you:) My mom complained to me the other day from when it was like 45 degrees there and then like negative 20 here. I was just like I don't care mom!!! haha Anyways. This is long enough! But for VA I have seen that it has been cold there and I am sorry you are getting the same arctic blast that we have had!! But just be grateful you aren't 45 below zero. Granted our HIGH for that day was 25 below zero and with the wind chills it was 45 below but still!! I would really LOVE even to have a day with 20 degrees!!
The last two days were crazy! I had to work to 2am both days! I don't like leaving work and seeing the number 6 on my temperature gauge in the car!
I guess I won't ramble about how this has been the coldest winter Phelan has seen in over 20 plus years. We had 2 to even 7 days where most of the people in town were snowed in (including us). It was a beautiful site, but life does go on. We don't experience the cold most of your readers and you do, but I did laugh when we couldn't leave the house due to snow while living in sunny Southern California.
OH GEEZ! Its been in the 70's here! I could not even imagine what that is like!
