Trip to Colonial Williamsburg

Last weekend Renee, one of our friends from high school came down from Washington DC. She made us a delicious vegan meal that we could have pulled past Max pretty darn easily, and we enjoyed some "remember when" stories. We were sorry Ryan couldn't make it down with her but we plan on heading up their direction soon. :)

After my gourmet organic oatmeal with flax seed breakfast, we took the ferry to Colonial Williamsburg. The colors of Fall complimented the area very well. Renee was awesome at explaining things to Kalee and pointing things out to spark her interest. :)

Me and Renee

We watched the reading of the Declaration of Independence and the drummer boys followed.

One of the skits that I honestly didn't follow much because I was trying to keep bear from kicking rocks and stirring up commotion.

Gorgeous tree and the shack behind it was the kitchen on The Great Hopes Plantation.

Behind the kitchen Renee demonstrated this nifty device used to make life easier in this time. Kalee said today it's easier to get it from the fridge.

Oh, this works like that?

Me and my babie.

I'm telling you, the scenery was enough to make me want to go back weekly! Go ahead, call me an Autumn junkie.

This place was so hands on. We learned a game called Shut the Box, saw the alphabet puzzle that was missing two letters, played with some of the toys, and they got to see what kinds of things children of those days carried in their bags. Renee explained why the slave girl had a permit and since then, Kalee has elaborated on it more each time it's told. Sometimes my girl has an imagination that blows me away.
The end!
We hope to return to that beautiful historical place next weekend. :)

Remember when I demonstrated how to us the yoke and the bucket fell on my foot? Clumsy me! It didn't hurt then, but my foot's still bruised! I had a great time with you all! It was so much fun seeing history through the eyes of your little ones, I can't wait to share DC with you next week!!
